THIS Sexy Beast

Updated: Jul 20, 2021

Our decision to buy a Sprinter Van was anything but direct. We started out considering a full-on RV, then a tow behind (we liked the Airstream Bambi,) but ultimately we opted to retrofit a van. Three reasons for the choice; maneuverability, preference for 'tent' sites over RV sites when we camp and dog comfort- yes, that's a truth right there. (We looked at the Promaster, the Transit and the Sprinter. Choosing a Sprinter just came down to personal preference.) Simon and Sampson are accustomed to spending time in the car as my sister, Kimberly, and I have taken many a road trip with them. They love camping and they love being in the car. My fear with the tow behind was driving away from them when we want to go adventuring. The barking and abandonment fears would have us stressed instead of being carefree. With the sprinter we can all drive to a location, set the climate control and venture off knowing they are safe and content.

Then the search began. It took several months to find one that checked the most wish list boxes and that didn't sell within hours of coming on the market. Obviously, price was also a factor. While the newer 2019 -2021 Sprinters have some great features like a DEF (a necessary diesel fuel additive) monitoring gizmo, backup camera and some other stability and safety features we chose a 2016. She came with several added packages which addressed almost all of our safety and convenience concerns. We will add our own backup camera and self monitor the DEF. For a savings of well over $10,000 we can afford to be diligent on that front.
